Drone Examiner is the number one source of drone reviews, news and tips. We are your destination for all types of information related to quadcopter releases and drones for sale.
We recommend sturdy drones such as the DJI Phantom 4, Yuneec Typhoon H, or even higher end drones such as the DJI Inspire 2.
Bob,
Have you tried Amazon?
Richard,
I haven’t heard of anyone installing that gimbal on the 3DR Solo. But my advice would be to just stick with the 3DR Solo Gimbal.
Unfortunately the DJI Phantom 3 is not waterproof.
The 3DR Solo drone would be your best bet. Not sure what’s your budget (the 3DR Solo is not exactly cheap), but that’s the drone that will do what you’re looking for.
Thanks for the tips, and I completely agree with you Carter. The Cheerson CX-20 it’s a really good quad.
For your needs I would stick with the 3DR Solo. The range itself shouldn’t really be a deal breaker, unless you know for sure you are going to need the extra range that the Phantom 3 offers.
The 3DR Solo also offers Smart Shots like Cable Cam, Orbit, and Follow that will be great for your business and personal needs. You will need to buy the camera separately though.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I have flied the drone. I haven’t really had any issues with it. It is a first generation, but 3DR has released drones of great quality in the past, it’s not exactly like it’s their very first drone they ever manufactured.
Salim,
There’s been a few people telling me about that same issue with the Heli-Max 230Si. I only had this one for a little bit and didn’t really have an issue.
Out of those two I prefer (based on my needs and taste) the Bebop, but the 200 QX it’s a good product as well.
Have you tried Amazon? It says they have a few in stock.
Are you referring to the FPV Goggles?
Shawn,
I personally haven’t had a major issue with this drone. But I also never fly any of my drones when raining or when it’s windy. How high are you trying the drone to go?
I haven’t flied a drone outside of Houston where the altitude is 43ft (according to Google), so I wouldn’t be able to tell you how the drone will perform at that altitude.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
We didn’t have a bad experience when we tested the drone indoors nor outdoors with good climate (no wind and no rain). Possibly they gave you a faulty quadcopter?
I do agree the DJI Phantom 3 is slightly better right out of the box. But in the long run the 3DR Solo may be a better option, since it was designed to be “Future-Proof” and you wouldn’t need to replace it anytime soon.
Edward,
I’m not completely sure if it’s capable of doing aerial mapping with modifications/upgrades, but out of the box, the 3DR Solo drone is not designed to do that.
3DR does offers other drones (more pricey) that are designed to do aerial mapping out of the box.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Nick,
You need a GPS enabled device, such as smartphone, tablet, etc. There’s already equipment out there that will hold/hide your smartphone safely. You can take a look at this video, it’s not the 3DR Solo, but it’s another product by 3DR that utilizes the same Follow Me technology: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CCQy1cbbfE
Filipe,
I would recommend practicing with an entry-level drone if you have never flied one before. But the 3DR Solo drone it’s my recommendation if you were to decide them two, the 3DR Solo offers 4 Smart Shots that you can use with the push of a button: Cable Cam, Orbit, Selfie, and Follow.
I’m not sure what you mean by “safe boudery”, but you have 4 Smart Shots that you can use with the push of a button: Cable Cam, Orbit, Selfie, and Follow.
You can find more info about each here: http://3drobotics.com/smart-shots/
Here is what it says about the Accessory Bay at their official website: “A built-in port designed for carrying accessories other than gimbals or imaging devices.”

Wouldn’t that be awesome? 🙂
Thank you SFKeepay. We really appreciate your feedback.

Great info Tim.
The 3DR Solo is not waterproof and it takes about 1.5 hours to recharge the battery.
Hi Joseph,
You are correct, the Phantom 3 uses a built-in camera and the Micro Cinema Camera is not compatible, or at least not yet. We will need to see if some aftermarket manufacturer tries to get their hands on it and make something to be able to integrate this camera into the DJI Phantom 3.
The drone they tested this camera on, was actually on a Phantom 2.
Hi Tom,
Yes, the Blade 350 QX3 is much better. Depending on the features that you’re looking in a quadcopter, the Parrot Bebop drone is another good option for almost the same price.
Hi Michael,
Yes, you can live stream imagery over to a tablet, phone, or compatible monitor. The controller has a mini-HDMI and USB port that allows you to connect mobile devices or compatible screens/monitors.
